CI MID TWIN
CI MID TWIN
The CI Mid made its grand entrance with the ever-reliable 2-plus-1 fin setup—think of it as the surfboard equivalent of wearing both a belt and suspenders. With a big centre fin and some small sidekicks, it’s ready to ride! Sure, you can also rock it as a single-fin, but trying to use it as a twin just doesn't cut it—it’s like wearing flip-flops in a snowstorm!
When it came time to spice things up and create the Mid Twin, the team once again teamed up with co-designer Devon Howard. After a surf session that involved more test runs than a caffeinated squirrel, Devon declared, “A really great board just got even better.” And who wouldn’t want to ride a board that’s been blessed by surf royalty?
The Mid Twin is the life of the party—an incredibly responsive, spicy mid-length that lets riders carve smooth, classic lines while trimming with the finesse of a hot knife through butter. And don’t worry; it’ll have you zooming faster than your friend who just spotted a school of fish. Quick bottom turns and effortless redirections on the open face? Yep, it’s got that too!
Thanks to the added lift from its larger twin fins, this board is now 1 inch shorter than the original Mid, allowing for the kind of crisp turns that make you feel like a surfing ninja. While this does mean a shorter rail line, the team strived to keep the Mid Twin's stock volume (liters, folks, not beer) close to the original for optimal paddling—so a little extra width and thickness was thrown in for good measure. Plus, with a pinch more tail rocker, riders can now perform even more acrobatic maneouvers. Team riders are even claiming they can go up to 4 inches shorter than before, thanks to these upgrades. Talk about a weight loss program!
As for the finishing touches, the classic minimalist logo from the original Mid is still here, a nod to the ‘70s vibes and proving that sometimes, less is more—like a good excuse for not sharing your fries. Each Mid Twin is crafted with high-quality resin (6-4oz. decks with 6oz. bottoms) and sealed with a gorgeous satin gloss finish that’s shinier than your uncle’s head at a family barbecue.
When it comes to sizing any of the Mid designs, it’s simple: good to very good surfers should look for a board about 10 inches above their height—because who doesn’t want to feel a little taller? Average to good surfers should go for 12 inches, and beginners to average surfers might want to consider a board that's 14 to 16 inches taller than their height—just to keep things interesting!
As for fins, you can't go wrong with either the AMK or BMT. Go for the AMK if you like your turns fuller and rounder than your morning pancakes—perfect for medium to larger body types. Or, if you're on the lighter side or prefer a looser, tighter arc feel underfoot, the BMT is your go-to. Either way, you’ll be styling through the waves and making memories that are worth a retelling!
